My school life was colored with a lot of activities. One that sticks out is Soccer. I played soccer for seven years, For seven years I missed not a single match, for seven years, I missed not a single practice lesson but for seven years, I would run in the pitch for 90 minutes and sometimes touch the ball not even once, For seven years, I scored NOT a single goal!
You must be wondering why did they include me in the team. Ask me Why? I don’t know, all I know is we had eleven boys in our class.
Two weeks before graduation, we had to play our final match against our arch-rivals, the neighboring school. We were all excited, we were all fired up, the adrenalin was rushing, it was as if we’re preparing for the “world cup”. The trophy was waiting. Ten minutes into the Match- No goal, half time – No goal, 80 minutes No goal. On the 89th, I gave up I decided to just stand to wait for the final whistle to blow. I was weak, I was weary and I was worked up. But then something happened…. my teammate Solo hit the ball! Watching that ball, I realized that the ball was not going to hit the goal but it was going to hit me. When the ball hit me it went straight into the goal post. I scored my first golden goal! We won the cup. I was declared the best footballer of the year for one day.
Soccer taught me several lessons. One that you need to take away is, for you to succeed you need to Get up, dress up, and show up day in day out.
You may be struggling to achieve something, you might have been working on something but you cannot see the results. People may be discouraging you, they may be laughing at you. Don’t give up. Get up dress up and show up.
